Is It Really A Short Sale?

Ever wonder why they call these transactions short sales when they take sooooo long.
Maybe a better word for a short sale should be a "Long Sale"
You would think that the banks would be eager to move these homes a bit faster, but after a while I am beginning to wonder what in the world they are thinking.
You have an interested buyer who wants the home, they present a fair offer, and the lender takes 60, 90, 120 days to respond.
I know they are very back logged, but why don't we put the unemployed to work on short sales? Sounds like there should be great opportunity in a "Short Sale Processor" in this market.
Hope this will open up more employment opportunities.
